Guide to install Solar Mounting Set

Versatile use: hanger bolts in 2 lengths

Before deciding on the hanger bolt length, it's essential to consult local building codes, structural engineers, and the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure safety and optimal performance.

Important: Always use the hanger bolt in combination with the metal flashing plate and adapter ( = IKO solar panels mounting set)

When to use 200 mm hanger bolt

  1. Thin roof structures: If the mounting roof surface is standard without additional layers, especially when using pre-drilled holes, shorter bolts can provide a secure fit and adequate support without unnecessary excess length.

  2. Simpler Installation: Using shorter bolts can make the installation process simpler and quicker, particularly in straightforward applications without the need for adjustments for thicker materials.

  3. Design requirements: Specific installation designs may call for shorter bolts to align with aesthetical preferences, particularly in residential applications or historical districts where visual impact is considered.

  4. Lightweight Systems: If the solar panel system is relatively lightweight and the local building codes or engineering specifications allow it, shorter bolts can be adequate.

  5. Cost Efficiency: Shorter bolts can be more cost-effective; if the installation requirements do not necessitate longer bolts, opting for shorter ones can reduce material costs and installation time.

When to use 250 mm hanger bolt?

  1. Increased stability: Longer bolts can offer better anchorage, especially in areas where wind loads are a concern. They help ensure that the solar panels are securely fastened to the roof or to the mounting structure.

  2. Accommodating thicker materials: If the mounting surface is thicker than average longer hanger bolts can be necessary to ensure a secure fit. This concerns roofs with multiple layers or additional insulation, e.g. mansard roofs, higher counter battens or with ventilated double roof deck.

  3. Adjustable height: Longer bolts can allow for more flexibility in adjusting the height of the solar panels, which can be beneficial for achieving the optimal angle for sunlight exposure. With the higher mounting of PV panels (higher distance in between the PV panels and roof surface) we improve the ventilation underneath. This will cool down the temperature of panels and it will increase electricity production. With a higher mounting we also facilitate the installation as well as the maintenance work.

  4. Facilitating mounting accessories: Longer bolts allow for better integration of the mounting accessories or other components that may require additional space.

  5. Improved load distribution: Longer bolts can help distribute the load of the solar panels more evenly across the structure, potentially reducing stress on any single point.
